Default 2013 - Heritage Oil Leak

Hi guys,

I have a friend with a 2013 Heritage Softail with an oil leak that seems like a defect. His bike is leaking oil from the oil line that runs behind the exhaust. For some season the line is to close to the exhaust and vibration has filled through the oil line and it's now leaking. A friend told me many of this bikes have this defect and they end up adding a brace so that the line doesn't rub to the exhaust.

Does anyone have this same issue or had it? Is it a defect or just a bad installation of the oil line? Is there a Recall for this or a solution to prevent this from
happening.

thanks

My 09 is slightly discoloured like the one in your pic but there doesn't appear to be any rubbing
.
I do have about 50% more space than what is shown in your pic so perhaps the exhaust might need to be loosened then adjusted slightly.

Interesting. Is the exhaust adjustable? Is there a way to reposition de oil line or the exhausts to have more clearance between both?

This is a picture after the oil line was taken off by my friend to inspect it.

It's rubbing on the exhaust heat shield clamp, there may be some play where the clamp connects thru the tabs on the shield, if so, then it could loosened and slid up or down the exhaust pipe a little, away from the oil line so it doesn't rub...... something to check.

I'll see if I can help him relocate the shield clamp a bit but I doubt it will move much. Still it's an option that's worth trying 👍🏼

He he did bring it up to the local dealer. I must be clear the bike is out of warranty and this is off record. We got word from the dealer that some bikes have had that problem and what they have done is add a second clamp that's attached to the oil line. This way, the rubbing is clamp to clamp.

this is why I'm looking for more input from fellow bikers in the forum and possibly a Recall that was issued and someone might know the name or number to mention it

Looks like something is moving around more than it should while riding the bike.

Is the oil tank on the post 2000 Softails still rubber mounted like my '94 is? If so, the mounts for the tank may be slotted (like mine are), and it may be possible to adjust the "fit" of the oil tank on the rubber mounts to gain a bit more clearance.

I can slide my fingers between mine and the exhaust. Somebody has done a Miley Twerk when replacing the exhaust or bolted up the lines to the motor
