Hello guys, first off I apologize if this is not the right place for this thread, I just signed up, I am in such desperate need of your help. Let me first explain my scenario.
4-5 months ago I was cruising down the highway about to make a right hand turn, went to pull my clutch lever in and realized it was all slack and no tension. In a panick I went to the shoulder and attempted to trouble shoot. I noticed my clutch cable backed out of the housing of the clutch lever and when I held manual tension my clutch would engage normally. To get home I had to hold my clutch cable outward so I could pull my lever.
I have tried just about everything there is to figure this out falling just short of replacing my entire transmission and clutch. i have taken the cover off of where the clutch cable attaches to, I have not noticed anything unusual the only thing I can see is that the damn clutch cable appears to be too long but how does that happen in a matter up minutes on a short ride? I asked my local Harley dealer about this and they stated there is nothing they can do without seeing the bike which I can not do. I have a lifted truck and am unable to single handedly lift an 800lb bike in the back and my truck is too tall for ramps. They also told me they do not sell clutch cables in different sizes. Do you guys have any possible idea what could've happened here? I can not seem to find anything like this
On the forums or online and I've spent days and days and days searching. This is a 1989 softail. I can upload pictures as needed thank you in advance for your time.
This little piece was floating around the housing when I opened it up.
