OK you "flipped" the 3 ball ramp on the right side under the clutch actuation cover. ( Never pull the clutch handle when the clutch isn't installed.)

Here's how you fix it. Remove the clutch cover and pull all the slack out of the cable from DOWN there. The lever on the ramp should point straight down or maybe 7 O'clock. Now put the cover back on and then adjust the clutch on the left and then the cable.

If I were to guess, that lever is closer to 4 O'Clock right now, ( already extended so to speak.)

That happens to lots of guys the first time..

I've never done the clutch cable replacement but most of the problems i've read about relate to the connection in the transmission housing. Stiggy beat me to it... good advice

It should roll forward in first with the clutch lever pulled

OK. So the 3 ball ramp is in ( lever pointing down,) and you adjusted the clutch on the left side( with the cable still a little loose,) by bottoming out the adjuster screw a couple of times and then backing out the screw 1/2" to 3/4" and securing the lock nut. Then you adjusted the clutch cable to about 3/32" free play.

That sound right?
