I usually clean the intakes on my bikes by just shooting a little carb cleaner in them and then starting them up and riding for a while. How do you do it?

Mine is the K&N "gauze" type. Take it off. warm soap and water, rinse with water pressure from the inside out, blow dry wit air, mist it with light oil such as WD, MMO or 3-1
Spraying from the outside in with carb cleaner while still on the bike just blows a bunch of dirt into the motor. Easier, yes. Better? Not in my opinion. But we all know what opinions are worth

I get in there with a paper shop towel and clean as much carbon as I can off the throttle plate every 10k or so.
