I havew a quick release shield for mine. I usually keep it off but it attaches in seconds if it is raining or cold. The best of both worlds. If you don't really like the looks of it then just keep it off when you don't need it. Sounds like the perfect solution for you.

Mine's a quick release and doesn't look bad. When I first got the bike I hated the windshield but I started using it more when the weather turned a little cooler now it has grown on me. Looks ok but I like the added protection from bugs, small pebbles and birds etc... A Fatboy is great looking bike with or without the windshield and it only takes a few seconds to install or remove.

tex,

I googled the 16" windvest as you suggested and it is around $340 direct, without searching ebay.

This isn't cheap, but is about what the others I am looking at run. After I finish changing some lights, the windhsield is next and the windvest is a frontrunner. Thanks for sharing.

Yep...thats about what I paid for mine.

I should also mention the Windvest is adjustable, up, down forward and back. It took a few tries to get mine adjusted perfectly, I was experiencing a lot of buffeting. As I said before, I’m fairly tall so I had to adjust all the way forward and up…works great now. They also use a very thick lexan material to eliminate flex and it comes in smoke color too.

Just put a windvest on my fxstc and it's pretty good. I'd say it takes about half the wind pressure out. Just enough to be comfortable at higher speeds but still gives enough wind for motorcycle effect. It's actually plexiglass and not lexan. Plexi never dulls and more scratch resistant than lexan. Plexi will however shatter if hit hard enough or crack at the holes if flexed too much. That's why it's so thick, to make it more durable. Having the custom , I was hesitant to go with a larger windshield and eventually lowers. Just too big for my tastes. Windvest did not detract from the bikes beauty. Actually looks cool. At 5'8 I went with the 14x14 and ran it full up on the holes and brackets which puts wind blast about 2" above my helmet.

Ok, I'm sold.

Is the installation something you guys did yourselves?

I'm thinking the bracket mounts onto the front forks, right?

I am changing my turn signals in the front and back and was gonna put the silver bullets off the forks, instead of the normal handlebar types, but think the windvest won't work with that style.

The ideas continue to mount....

I stand corrected on the lexan...the plexi is great material and tough to scratch. I've put 20K on my windvest and it still looks new. Plus the chrome mounting hardware is top notch.

The brackets mount to the handlebars and take about 1/2 a beer to install.

I have the HD king size one which is quck detach. On a interstate ride, this is an essential item for me. Best prices is from Zannoti HD in Butler, PA. at least 20% off and reasonable fast shipping.
