Default Fuel overflow problem when hot

I have an 01' FatBoy with 115K on it and it's been a great bike! Stage II 95".
Last year when the weather got hot and I filled the bike to the bottom of the filler-hole. I would start the bike, it ran fine but raw fuel pours out of the injection, out the breather and onto the bike. Mean time, it's running ok and it eventually stops after about a couple of miles?? WTF? I have a HD locking gas cap which is fairly new. Only in hot weather when the bike is hot. Any ideas?

Check that your cap has the built in vent feature, or pressure will build and forces it out from connections less capable at competing with the pressure build ups

It sounds like your tank is not venting and building pressure. I had a issue a couple of years ago, where gas came out of the cap. I was in west Texas and it was over 100 degrees. We stopped and filled up and then went to eat a few miles down the road. When we came out there was gas on the ground. I cracked the cap and got sprayed with gas, so I tightened it back up. I went ahead and headed down the road with gas running sown the tank and onto my leg and engine. It stopped after about five miles. When I got back home I replaced the cap and never had a problem again..

I have the exact problem. My Sporty did it too.

What happened in both cases was filling the tank to the bottom of the baffle, and parking it in the sun for several hours. The fuel percolated out the vent hose and into the charcoal canister. So, go to start up, runs fine for a few seconds, then floods out. The vaccum connection at the carm/throttle body just pulls a big was of raw fuel directly into the intake.

It both cases it cleared up after the initial wad of fuel was sucked out. I had to restart the bike as if it were flooded.

Then disconnecting both the vent line and the vacuum line from the charcoal canister and using compressed air to blow it out, it was almost completely full of fuel.

My fix....eliminate the canister. OR, don't park in the sun after a fill up

The part where you mentioned about filling up the tank to the bottom of the baffle and then parking it in the sun is what I noticed also about my tank. I've done it a couple of times but the gas leaked out around my filler cap and down the side of my tank. My simple fix was to not do that any more. What I also did was to stop, do my thing and Then fill up on the way home or to my next destination. That way when I got there, my tank was down enough that the gas had room to expand without the possibility leaking out anyplace.

Agreed. "I told the doc that it HURTS when I do this."

Doc says, "Well, DON'T DO THAT!!"

Default Fuel flood problem

Thanks to you all for the suggestions. I removed the charcol cannister day one so must check all the connections. I do have a locking gas cap HD and maybe it needs to be replaced? I try all the suggestions and thanks!
