I want to replace my stock springer split tank with a king peanut or custom bobber tank. My issue is all the wiring. I can relocate the switch to a bracket, not sure if I want to keep the speedo and could care less about the warning and neutral lights. So has anyone done this and what is the best approach? Thanks.
Thank you for the response. Its definitely a high end clean option, but I really do not want to spend $500+ for features I am willing to live without. I'm really more curious as to how I can eliminate the wiring for now, as I shift to bike to a 'Frisco' look, but be able to put it back in place should I want to take it back to stock later.
Thank Prot. I looked at using the sportster setup, but it is mounted to risers and Springer risers are 4.75 vs. 3.5 for all others. Same issue with the Indicator light bracket for motoscope mini, but I could use the bar bracket setup for $312 (261+51). Sweet setup, just still a bit steep for me at this time - I'm changing bars, risers, indicator lights, looking at rear fender mod... and tank if I can find a way to remove dash from stock tank... so I'm watching my $$$ and willing to take a temp fix if needed.
i dont have a springer front end but i did to the dash delete on my 07 train. it was a more work than i had anticipated but i got it done by moving my ignition to where my horn mounted to the motor and i swapped my speedo for a sportster one. that speedo has lots of mounting options. joker machine makes speedo relocating brackets that moves the speedo to the forks. now i know you have a springer but i believe that the relocating bracket will open you up to some good custom mounting.
I realized it may be a lot of creative wiring, but I'd really like to swap tanks. Did not think about relocating a sportster speedometer bracket. No way on the forks, but the frame downtube may be an option. I'll look into it. Thanks.
I deleted all wiring from tank and bars about 11yrs ago now. Moved ignition switch to the motor mount, headlight switch is on a 3 way toggle switch mounted in the headlight bucket. Only prob I have is no more front brake switch meaning the brake light doesn't light up unless I hit the rear brake. So now as I use the front brake I just tap the rear to let ppl see the brake light.
If you decide to go this route and remove all the wiring, just trace it back to the connector and remove the pin and wire out of the connector unless the connector isn't needed then remove the whole thing.
Chrome Dome Dave: If I don't add Sportster speedo,, this is the way I'll go. . I do believe I can wire front brake switch to work properly. If not, tapping rear brake is no big deal.
Prot: Yep. Looked at Dakota but like Motoscope option better. Price is comparable - just not ready for that $$$ right now. It may be a great option for next winter.
