Hey fellas, just wanted to post some pics of the old softail after some winter work. She's a 98 custom. So over the winter I started with new tires and brakes. And of course while I had it apart...... New 6" risers for comfort, then I needed new cables and lines. So I went with magnums Sterling cromite for everything. New polished stainless rotors. The brake system was the original from 98 and didn't look like it was ever opened.
When I opened it up, both caliper and m.s. wouldn't pump up right, so new chrome caliper and new chrome controls.
The headlight was lacking so a nice bright daymaker got put on.
Had the original coil, that was beginning to fail, so new accell super coil.
Pulled the wires through the bars and boy did that clean it up, wasn't sure if I would like those wide beach bars, but they are awesome. Now when I ride the ultra the bars feel to skinny.
She has had some extensive work done to her through the years, and has some oomph! S&s shorty E, v&h double barrels, S.E. ignition, and something done inside. Still the stock cam, but either high compression pistols or shaved heads. This old evo has no trouble keeping up with 96"ers and she will smoke the early 88tcs.
I think she will get a cam after the season is over, of course new push rods and maybe tappets. She is also ready for a fresh coat of paint, same color just needs cleaned up.

Here's my 99(last year of the evo FXSTC) w/a 16 inch front HD Thunderstar wheel on the front and a color matched fatboy front fender. Chrome fatboy rear wheel. EVL 3010 Cam., S & S Super E, Kerker 2-1.
Yeah it did Ken.
It felt I think more stable as it had more rubber hitting the road litteraly as opposed to the 21 as the 16 had a bigger foot print.
I made the mistake of riding a friends FLHX and then decided that I had to have one, so sold the custom. No regrets.
The flh bikes are nice for sure. I am fortunate to have an understanding wife as I have the custom and a 98 ultra. So it all depends on what I feel like as to which one gets pulled out. Of course she likes the ultra better, I am indifferent so long as I'm riding!
