Default check valve

Hello, I have an 03 fatboy efi and the check valve was leaking so I ordered some new O rings to replace since that was the most common problem . I undid the quick connect and fuel was still coming out I did read that it was normal for the line to the pump to drain and then stop after the line was empty. The line never did empty and ended up draining the entire tank. I'm thinking there is a hole in the internal line does this sound like a possibility to anyone? or is this normal?

Thanks
Rich

Yeah, It sounds like a hole.. The fuel pump won't allow fuel to pass through it when stopped. From pump to the bottom of tank should be sealed. There has to be a hole someplace.

Get the fuel pressure tested.. Bet it fails.

pardon me.......doesn't sound like a hole....that hole would have to be VERY close to the check valve for it to empty the whole tank...might be a siphon effect.....
...sounds like the check valve seat is not seating and letting fuel empty......a hole inside the tank would not empty to the outside with out a way out.........Probably just the O rings...

Which O rings did you get?

How does the check valve stop the fuel from flowing from the tank if it's been removed or is simply leaking without the pump? Yes, The valve will keep fuel from pumping out of the tank if working properly with the fuel pump running and the fuel line is disconnected.

The volume between the between the check valve and the pump should be sealed with no way for the fuel to exit the tank through the pressure side of the fuel system unless there is a hole for fuel to enter..

Good idea.. While you are at it. Split the old lines and slip them over the new ones. Ziptie in place.. You will likely find holes one or the 2 hoses..

Got it all apart last night, not seeing any holes in the line, the fuel drained down to the fuel check valve. The fuel pump has been changed out since it does not have the factory clamps on it just normal hose clamps.

The new hose and check valve & filter came in today.

Is it possible for the fuel to drain past the fuel pump? or do you think the fuel pump has a problem? or could it be the clamps they used to put it back together?

It wasn't to bad to take apart but I want to cover all my bases before putting it back together, a little more downtime beats being on the road down.

Inspect the parts that the regulator / filter plugged into.. Make sure no parts are missing. Other than that I would suspect that if hose clamps were used in place of the original style clamps that are typically used (Oteker), they might have leaked. If you don't mind the taste of gas, try blow through the pump. Anything goes through, pump is likely bad.
