Can you pull console UP but also to towards REAR tire with one hand and at the same time try to turn allen with other hand?
That might work. If you have a heat gun try warming it up first.

Yes, Kuryakyn. It replaces the stock acorn nut. I have tried pulling up and towards the rear. I have tried pulling up and toward the front. Neither helped it still just turned. But thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely try it again.

At this point I'm truly thinking of just taking a trephine, if I can find one, just to make the head the same diameter as the rest of the nut. Then just pulling the dash cover off. Checking the carriage bolt and tank receiver and putting the old acorn nut back on, with maybe a new carriage bolt.

I would probably drill the cap of the carriage bolt out. I'd start with a small bit and increase the size of the bits until the cap came off.

How about working the situation in a different way.
You have it 1/8 inch loose correct?
The carriage bolt sits in a slot.
Can you push down on the allen head with correct tool while you try to slide the console itself forward so the carriage bolt head slides out of the slot?
Probably need for console to slide forward about 1 inch.
If you are 1/8 inch loose then some movement should be evident.

Bump the dash forward...it only needs to move 3/8" to clear the bracket!

ah, good thought. Then I could probably get a vice grip on the carriage bolt and use a 1/4"allen to unscrew. Would like to have a replacement carriage bolt on hand first, or I'll have no way of securing my dash to my tank, so unridable.

going to go try to disengage the carriage bolt from the tank. Will let you all know. Sounds like a great fix, can't wait to go try it.

ok, so, the 1/8" I could get wasn't the bolt/nut, it was at the bottom of the dash. I cannot wiggle, finesse or jimmy the bolt loose from the tank. I'm going to try the drilling with ever increasing sizes until the cap of the special nut comes off. Then I will be able to raise the dash with the cover off and I can check the carriage bolt. I have one ordered from my local dealer.

I had the same thing happen on Reaper. It wasn't the carriage bolt, it was the bracket it sits in. It spread apart enough to allow the bolt to turn. I wound up using a nut splitter to get the nut off. I used large channel locks to squeeze the bracket back, and it worked... for a while. It happened again, and again I had to split the nut off, so the last time, I JB welded the carriage bolt to the bracket. Haven't had a problem since.

Cheers!
