You can buy the system and install it yourself. But, you will need the dealership to marry the fob to the bike. The only other decision is whether you want a siren or not. It is not included with the security system.
The Harley system is integrated into the bike and offers probably the most protection but the siren can be a chore to install without a lift and patience. My bike had the security module as standard but I had to add the siren myself which is pretty loud.
I added the siren to the security device that came with my bike (2016 Softail Deluxe). It was @ $100. I was going to do it myself, but as stated above, needed to lift bike, remove wheel, etc. I had it done with other servicing. I think it was @ $125 labor. Well worth it IMO. I don't mind doing cosmetic changes, but wiring I'll leave to dealer. It feels a lot better hearing the chirps as you walk away, rather than just seeing lights flash.
Hey guys and gals, just bought a new 2016 breakout a few mths ago and thinking of a security system. Looking for info and recommendations..TIA
Pretty sure your BO already has the system installed, I wanna say they started adding it as stock since 2015. I could be wrong though. But if yours has the fobs and the lights flash after shut down its in there. You will just need to add the siren as others have done.

I believe only "S" models come with standard security.

Removing the rear wheel would make it easier for sure but you don't have too. The lift is for the rear wheel to drop a little so you can get behind it and remove the splash shield.
