Default Fxstc backfire

i have a sort of new to me 2007 fxstc, got it last year. Previously one owner, has about 8K miles on it. I have no idea what the history is on this bike other than it has after market pipes and air cleaner on it. It has always crackled and popped when letting off the gas and going down a hill, i figured that came with the territory of having after market pipes on it. Yesterday when just cruising right along going about 40mph, gas on but not accelerating my bike let out a really loud BANG! backfire that scared the crap outta me and my wife. I thought i had blown a tire until i realized it must have been a backfire. Is this something i should be worried about? Or just let it go? Ive owned many bikes and never had one backfire like that when just cruising down the road.

What are you using for fuel management? Sounds way lean.

I have no idea, not even sure what fuel management is...this is my first fuel injected bike. Fuel management to me means how far out i turn the screw on a carb to lean it out lol. I should prob take it in and get it tuned up. It is 10 year old bike, my guess is its prob never been properly adjusted after the pipes were put on.

Vance and Hines makes a Fuelpac-3 for 2007 and up HD's, I have found it to be the easiest to use, vanceandhines.com for info, I bought mine from directcycleparts.com they had the best price I could find. This is based on my own experience, Fuel moto can also give you more options. After your bike is tuned you will probably be surprised on how much better it runs, and it will run cooler. Good luck. Sorry about writing a book.

How can i tell if my bike has a fuel pac on it already? It might, it had one owner but the guy did a nice job on the mods it does have which leads me to (hope) he did it the right way when he had the pipes installed.

Fuel pack 3 is relatively new last couple of years it doesn't have to stay on the bike so I would guess if they didn't give you the unit it does not have one, next I would find the ECU on your bike and see if there is a device hooked to it, Power commander etc.
Stage 1 is exhaust air cleaner, Stage 2 would be 1 plus cams.

I seriously doubt it has a FP3 on it. That stage one looks like it was done awhile back judging from the pipes. Easy to tell though, see if there's a black box with fuelpack written on it plugged into the ECM.

If not, I'd just go ahead and buy one they're about $300. You're going to pay more than that putting it on a Dyno at a shop and even then it's a crapshoot if it's being done by someone who knows what they're doing.

Easiest, quickest, fastest way is to get the FP3. Plug in, download a map, flash the ECM and roll. All easily doable yourself.

I have the same bike as you, but a 2008. I bought it used also. It came with aftermarket Samson ripsaw pipes and it backfired like crazy. I bought the FP3 tuner form Vance and Hines. I have very little backfire now using a basic tune. My next step is to do the auto tune which would make the bike run even better.

I was the same as you not knowing anything about tuners, but V&H customer service is pretty helpful. It is really easy to use.
