Default Need a bolt!! Yeah that guy

So I have a 99 Heritage Softail and the floor board on the right side about fell off the other day because of this broken bolt. It attaches the board to the frame,, like a double sided bolt with two different size threads.. Harley says obsolete,, can't find it online.. Made 50 calls around and not even close.. people have suggested welding and zip ties and all kinds of stuff.

Find it hard to believe I have the only broken one and it doesn't exist anywhere,, hell I could rig something but now it's a mission to find this bolt!! Anyone have one or a know where to find one?? I will try to attach a picture of the broken one.

thanks for any help

The answer is do not use one.

Poor design, obviously insufficient sheer strength.

When I put floorboards on my Softail, I simply got a bolt long enough to go through the whole assembly then torqued to 15 ft lbs I believe. Not enough to hurt the master cylinder but enough to hold. With loctite and a proper lock washer, it's solid as a rock, and since I used grade 5 bolt, I know it won't sheer. I could have used grade 8 but I thought that would be overkill.

You may need a washer or spacer to offset here or there on either side but it's not difficult at all. You'll be glad you did.

As they say in tae kwon do - make your own situation here.

Default You guys rock!! Best damn 4um ever

You guys have both given me awesome solutions!! I want to do the one long bolt,, I agree on this being the best long term fix. Headed to Lowes hahahahaha to dig in hardware bins.

and thanks for the links of the actual part I was looking for,, talked to 30 people this morning all over the place and not one person mentioned a "rear brake master cylinder kit" I buy a lot of **** on eBay and couldn't find that.

if I can't find what's needed at lowes then will order the kit on eBay.

very glad I posted this and became a member of the forum. I read on here ALL the time, you all helped me figure out and fix my compensator that came loose on my 05 Road Kind 88ci

THANKS AND RIDE FREE, RIDE FAST AND RIDE SAFE

Here's one on eBay:

I just did a Google search for 42301-87 (the broken stud). This is why a parts manual for your bike is handy. You can search the web for the part number.
