Default need help for removing front fender

I did a stupid thing.........After I placed a tool bag pouch on my front fork, I didnt realize that it would push down onto my fender. Now I've got a hugh dent in the fender.....bummer. I'd liketo remove the front fender and taketo a body shop for repair. It looks like 2 hex bolts in each side, plus the wire ot the fender light. Is there anything elseto be aware of before I tackle this job? It looks like I can just slip off the fender without any trouble or removal of the tire....correct? I sure hope I can get this easily repaired.

Very simple. On my fatboy i think it was 4 bolts. Tokk about 5 minutes. Should be pretty easy...If you have a light on it, jsut take the light off the fender too. Good luck.

What Anubiss said. It's a simple matter of removing 4 nuts on the inside of the fender, and pulling the 4 bolts (allen head) through the boss on the fork. Just remove the light if you don't want to disconnect it. That simple. Good luck with it.

Becareful when you are going to put it back on, as an extra set of hands are helpful to avoid any scratches on your "fresh" tins!

I just recently pulled the front fender on my Softail Classic, same problem, a dent in the fender under the tool bag. I only had some soft stuff in the tool bag, so I am surprised at the dent. It is not quite as easy to pull it off as you think. The wiring to the front fender light on mine can be disconnected at the light, but it is still captured under the chrome trim rail, and you cannot get this off until you have the fender lifted some from the tire. Then the wire goes through a grommet and a hole in the fender, and you cannot pull the wire through the hole because it has the connector on it from the light! The other end of the wire is under the fuel tank. Rather than lift the tank, I think it would be easier to just cut the darn wire and put new connectors on it before it gets under the tank.

It is REALLY easy to scratch the fender taking it off and putting it back on. Be very careful!

With the Heritage fender, be sure to 'squeeze' the bottom of it as you take it out or as you're putting it back in, because it's flared out on the bottom and it will rub on the forks and scratch the edges..you may be able to do this yourself (I have) but to be safe, i'd have someone else help me. Good luck![&:]

Just pulled the fender off my 2003 Heritage last night for a dent repair. First, pull the front brake caliper. Cut the wire ties holding the wire to the front brake line, and drop the caliper on the other side of the highway bar. Next, remove the front tire. Scratches are almost a certainty without removing the front tire. Remove the 4 bolts, and have someone hold the fender while you twist the bottom fork legs to the outside about 45 degrees. The bottom of the fender will then slide easily past the bottom fork legs.

Because of the need to twist the fork legs to the outside, you really need an extra set of hands.

Good luck.

Rick

I thank you all for responding to my post...........it seemed like a simple removal, but all your tips came in handy. My fender is now in the "hospital" being tended to its' wound. Should be back on within a week !!
