Why are you looking at a Heritage if you don't like the 1950's look. Do you know what the word Heritage means ? Go look at a Breakout

I just went through the same dilemma, I was sold on getting to heritage but ended up buying a deluxe. I like the looks of the deluxe much better especially the rear end and even the front end for that matter. I'm adding a windshield, and also the docking hardware on the back if I decide to add bags. Also the bags on the heritage will eventually lose form, you can add bags at some point if you wish which are much better on the deluxe. For me it come down to I just really like the looks of the deluxe better, and I am 5'10" so it fits me perfect. Both are good bikes, but I just can't get past that rear end of the heritage.

My Heritage has no studs, fringe, fatass seat , sissy bar, rear rack, or wind shield, or bags. Point is, you can make either the way you want it.

The rear shocks should be the same.

I see the Deluxe is lower and has a seat height and a different rake and ground clearance.

Is this down soley to rear sock adjustment?

Cheers
There are no frame differences I'm aware of. The Deluxe has longer shocks and sits an inch lower in the rear, accounting for the difference in the rake AFAIK.

I LOVE the Deluxe (disclaimer: I own a '94 FLSTN, so I'm not entirely unbiased). Problem is I NEED full size saddlebags of some sort, and the shotgun pipes of the Deluxe won't allow this. I'd have to replace the entire exhaust system at considerable expense and deal with issues of legality and voiding my warranty to do so.

I liked the Heritage better than the Deluxe..... both ride and seat position. I too hated all the studs. I loved the size of the Heritage bags... just couldn't stand those studs!

I actually looked and contacted several people and companies, trying to find out who manufactures the Heritage bags for Harley... wanted to special order a set without the bling.... never got my question answered.

I ended up getting slightly smaller bags with no studs. I left the concho and studs on the seat... I hardly notice them now...

As mentioned, ride both, get the one that feels/rides the best for you... then make your changes to suit your taste...

Cool

I'm confused. Harley addressed the stud issue and did away with most of them. Do you still not like the newer models? I own a Deluxe, have it setup just about the way you're talking and am happy as a clam. But those new color schemes on the Heritage give the Deluxe a run for it's money. I'd give them a test ride to see how they feel to you and go from there. And of course, there is no rule that says you have to stay stock. Happy hunting!

Swapped out the seat and the bags, not into studs and tassels. Sold the OEM stuff and bought aftermarket, added a fairing and tunes and I'm a happy camper!

I love my Deluxe since I made it my own. You can do the same with whatever you get.
