Default Potential new member! Need help!

Hello everybody!

I am potentially looking to get a 2017 softail slim with 11,000 miles on it for `$11,000. I'm not sure if I should go through with the deal and need help. The bike is a custom painted army green with a white star (not the slim s, just custom paint I believe), and it has a little over 11,000 miles. The guy selling it says he needs to get rid of it and wants $4000 and somebody to take over his payments (owes $8,700). The payments he's making is around 250/mo. I'm just wondering if I should even buy this bike or just get a brand new Harley with no miles and brand new warranty. I'm not even particular of the model of Harley I want, I just like the brand and the features. (Anybody know the details of the warranty for the softails? Would the used one still be covered and for how long?) Just wondering if the value of the bike is even worth $11,000 anymore with that many miles? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Welcome Ren from England. Sounds like you're in a bit of a panic with all the questions? Take a step back away from this potential deal, go and do a little research, get a few test rides in from your dealership and see what other deals are available.

There will be an ideal Harley-Davidson out there waiting for you which will be much more suitable, one you will be happy from 'on the off' and appease your conscience. I do not think the one above is the one.

$4,000 + $8,700 is $12,700. How do you figure $11,000? Are you including interest in the balance?

yeah, math didnt add up.
For that amount, I would just visit the stealeship. They're begging you to steal them away right now. Prolly get a similar deal or better IMO. Used or new, they're takin a percentage off of MSRP. Have heard as much as 15%. Then you get the warranty or option to buy it on used.

I paid 12,500 for my '15 slim with 6K on it in May for reference..I stopped at the dealership Sat an they are trying to clear everything out for the 18's coming in. I knew I really liked the slim an I save about 6K or so off the price of a new one. the dealers here try to stick you with a 1,250 freight prep fee so you save that right away on a late model used bike.

Sounds like this cat wants to put $4k in his pocket and have you assume his debt. Nope. Let some other fool take that deal.

Taking over payments doesn't work as the seller is saying. You'll need to arrange financing with HDFS and then the bike is sold to you. Just because his payments are 250 doesn't mean yours will be too. If it were me I'd buy brand new and not worry about buying someone else's nightmare. I am always leary of someone that "has to sell a basically new vehicle". In my eyes there is most likely a problem waiting to burst and they want to get away from it.

Don't forget Harley will void the warranty if any aftermarket tuner was used on a 2017. It's not worth the risk to me

I agree, you need to take a step back and take time to rethink this, you might be thankful that you did.

I agree with everyone else. Somethings off on this deal. Math doesn't add up n it sounds like the seller is trying to pull the wool over ur eyes. Back n March I bought a 2014 slim with 1300 miles for 12k. I, personally, don't think this bike is worth the asking price. There are better deals to be had. Especially right now on a new bike. They are almost begging people to take them.

Welcome to the forum from Texas.

Since you joined, you are no longer a "potential" member although I would say you are a potential Harley owner.

Pass on this bike. Take your time. The market if flooded with used bikes. A better deal will come your way.
