I think I would have preferred the larger tank, but the new one isn't ugly. It's a fuel tank for heaven's sake, What shape do you think it should be.
I sat on the bike and it is horrible looking, does not belong on that bike. And putting a smaller gas tank on with the excuse that they wanted to show off the motor more was idiotic.

As to the swing arm, the lower tube no longer travels down and intersects with the lower frame tube, it goes straight to the pivot point. How does that look like a rigid? It doesn't.

Another thing I noticed is the front peg brackets are different now. Now that all the Softails have the same frame I would think there would be some parts that inter change. Not that I like them but it looks like the Boards on a Fat Boy would bolt right up to the Breakout. Same for the Seat, exhaust etc.

Saw it in person today. Tank flows well with the bike, but still too small imo. Almost makes me think they were going for lines of the now defunct vrod.

Just because harley now builds rockets doesn't mean anyone is flying them.
At 56 next month and nearly 40 years of motorcycling I still like to twist the throttle on occasion and enjoy cruising more as one gets older. In Jessica's case having spent what I would imagine a princely sum going stage 5 what was the point if you aren't going to use it now and again? Or is it a case of Justin? Just in case?
That's one of the reasons I came to the Harley-Davidson marque. As one gets older and reactions slow down the body begins to creak and groan, bits start poking out where they're not supposed to and the days of leaning on a fuel tank to reach the bars come to an end, a more relaxed posture and slower speeds are wanted. Whilst you can still ride at 30 mph have an accident and die there is no point having an uncomfortable bike that can do nearly 200mph if your reactions to deal with anything unexpected are not what they once were IMHO. Nevertheless you may not, but I do still try to 'fly' mine on occasion when conditions permit. With my curiosity I have experienced the elation of exploring what each and every one of the motorcycles I have owned over the years is capable of with regards to acceleration and top speed.

My question was a genuine one and a bit 'tongue in cheek.'

I do think so! Must not be too many 2017 Stage 5 Breakouts around. Wouldn't mind having yours in my garage, a bike customised to the level of yours - and a sleeper at that - is still nicer than a 2018 one right of the floor.

Already showing parts for the 2018 on the HD site. Screamin Eagle 114 to 117 kit $1595, 3" extended pegs. $569.95. They didn't sell the extended pegs for the 13-17 even though you could fit the ones for a Softail on them. And it looks like they went to a Michelin rear tire.

Yes they get Michelin Scorchers now. I saw the rear tire available but not the front yet. The 2018 tire sizes are the same as the pre 18 models. They may be a good alternative for someone looking for stock tire sizes on the pre 18 BOs.

The 3" foot peg extenders are on back order, as are other new-for'18 parts I ordered, but I'm looking forward to their eventual arrival to make this '18 BO more comfortable. (I'm on the taller side.) Was glad to see they offered them for this bike out the gate.

While I'm glad I waited for 2018, the included turbine wheels on the 2017 almost got me to bite. Up to the day the 2018 arrived at the dealer, I had a wait-and-see attitude. I was prepared to buy a 2017 if I didn't like it. My first long ride yesterday, and "oops!, forgot gas" before heading home, reminded me of the smaller tank I have to remember to consider.

The well-documented suspension mods for the earlier model seem easy, effective, and not too expensive. I'd have done them right away had I got the 2017, but I do thank HD for finally making that unnecessary.

Whether by preference or bank account limitations, I tend to skip product generations and get the most value from what I buy. Be it smartphones or motorcycles, I like getting the latest when it's time to buy, but then I want that to last as long as possible. The M8 is great, but just a step up from the 103, not a giant leap. (A giant leap from my old 88B though!) if I had a 103 Breakout I wouldn't go farther than admiring the new M8 bike and be happy that HD is pushing ahead in general. I hope HD keeps pushing forward and doing their best to tempt us with new products. But in reality it will be a long time before I consider a new bike again, if ever.

Mods and a better pic in the works. So happy to be back on an HD!

I took the pillion off mine and found it difficult! My mates reckoned the best way was for me to sew some Velcro to the seat of my jeans and stick some corresponding strips to the seat itself. The Breakout looks cool as a solo seat but I can't compromise on the comfort when winding open the throttle as the pillion seat being higher prevents rear slippage.
It's hard to stay on the bike i had to use my modded passenger seat if i want to do a bit of twist the wrist actions

The turbine rims suck i dont even bother washing my wheels anymore it's too time consuming and very hard to get my small hands between the spokes.

Might get knocked for this, but if you check the classifieds, there may or may not be a fix for this problem.
