Was reading the manual and found this nugget. And not trying to start a debate. Just pointing it out since some might not notice or read the manual. 107 trans lube is formula+. 114 trans lube is syn3 20w50.
Pure marketing ploy.... been doing it with CVO models for years..
They put their "premium" oil (more expensive, more profit) in the higher performance bikes to send a subliminal message that the higher performance bikes require that oil....
You'll be fine with Formula+, I prefer it to Syn3, or using any other motor oil, in the primary and/or tranny....
Most of the later service manuals have gone back to Formula + in transmission and primary.
They just did not catch them all. The CVO still has SYN3.
This is first choice/second. Either will work but one should stick with one. Long term, Formula is best since there is no filter in them. It tends to let crud stuff fall to the bottom. SYN3 keeps it in suspension for a filter (engine). It's one of those engineering things that is more words than meaning.
