Default internal wiring on handlebars

I have an fxstc and got a set of chubby wild onz 14" i want to install. All the cable lengths are the correct length including the main wiring harness. So all i have to do is run the cable through the bars, someone that had this bike before me must have had 16" ape hangers and swapped them out before selling it (and put the original bars back on) cause there is plenty of excess cable ect. Ive already put the bars on, put all the controls back on and everything is long enough. So my question is this:

To simply route the cables through the bars, do i have to unhook the cables from the clamshells and unhook the cables from under the tank, or can i leave the cables hooked up to the clamshells and unhook them from under the tank or vise versa? I dont want to do any more work than i have to.

Although not really answering your question. Get a large diameter guitar string. They are the best thing for running wires in bars! Run the end with the eyelet thru your bar until it comes out the grip end. secure wit tape of zip tie and then pull thru. Easy Peasy.

You first need to disconnect the connectors under the tank, do NOT disconnect the wires from the handle bar mounted controls. The pull the pins out of the connectors (if you do not have a manual make yourself a simple diagram for replacement). Run wires thru the bars from the controls down to the handle bar clamp. Put your connectors back together and complete installation.

Grease up the harness to assist in sliding it through the handlebar.

Saltlick, please post pics when you get the job done. I have the same bike and 14” apes are on my want list. Thanks. Good luck.

If you have a crossover line under the tank (front of the tank), it will only slide back an inch or two until the fuel line is against the frame. You come close to scratching the rocker box too.

Buddy of mine tried this, didn't pay attention to the fact one of his clamps on the fuel crossover line was aftermarket with a screw to tighten it...screw scratched the hell out of the rocker box.

hmm....yeah i have a crossover line under the tank. Ill give it a try pulling it back, see if it doesn't give me enough space to get to the wiring...if not ill just have to drain the gas out i guess.

Get the manual and follow the instructions for tank removal, about a dozen good reasons why it is a good idea. The best are access to the wiring and not scratching and denting your tank. Not a big deal to do, just follow the manual and you will be all good.
