I been reading here and there that the 2018 suspension is wayyy better than previous years. If so, wouldnt it make sense that the 2018 OEM suspension is good enough as is? I can see air systems for the folks that want to drop the bike on the deck at times, but they are cruisers, not sportbikes. WHY?
+1 I was thinking the same thing. The sole purpose of the new mono shock was for better ride quality.
.......a remote preload adjuster and rebound & compression damping.
Excuse me for asking but exactly what is a preload adjuster and rebound & compression damping system?
A preload adjuster adjusts how much the spring on your shock is compressed. One would typically increase preload for luggage or passengers. Rebound and compression damping controls how quickly the shock compresses and extends when it needs to absorb bumps in the road. It is usually done when the shock oil passes through a series of orifices in the shock body.

Well for me it's good enough that it has absolutely ruined my impression of the suspension of every other bike we own. Everything else feels harsh or vague by comparrison so for me it's "better enough".
But yeah, there's still "better" for guys that want high end adjustability or extreme lowering on demand. Some will always want better.
Hey guys, just got a 2018 breakout 114, looking for air ride but, i'm concerned about ground clearance and lean on turns with the air ride lower, anyone in here have air ride on the new softail.
Im a short guy, i'll like to lower the back a couple inches but i'm afraid i will drag on turns.
Thanks

Reason: wrong spelling
putting air ride on 2018 softails is taking a step backwards. People that put air ride tend to show their bikes at shows and rather than ride them due to the adjustability. Progressive and Ohlins already have shocks out which have preload and rebound damping. The new monoshocks open endless opportunities.
Im a short guy 5'5" and I am able to put both feet down on all 2018 softails. You pretty much have to have an inseam of 27 and below to not able to get your feet down. BTW I have an inseam of 28/29
I can get both feet on the ground, but I have to stretch my legs all the way, and another thing is I want a chopper look, thinking on short back fender kit from HEART LAND,

I'm glad you weren't around when I bought my Shotgun Shock for my '13 Breakout. It made all the difference in the ride. My back says your opinion sucks.
