Default 2018 Bassani Pipe Tuning Issue

I opted to post this here as I think it'll get more views and responses, also want to know if anyone's had a similar issue occur.

On the 2018 bassani road rage pipe the front header o2 bung is welded way down low, almost near the foot control. On the rear header it's fine. See pic:

When using o2 sensors (in my case 18mm wide band sensors) because the bung is welded so far down the header, the front o2 sensor is not able to get an accurate AFR reading. Which in turn means it's having map tuning problems.

I called Bassani who asked me to email them this info. I did, and they followed up with me that my pipe wasn't a mistake, but that they purposefully positioned the front bung there so that the end user wouldn't have to unclip or move/create slack on the existing stock o2 sensor.

Maybe i'm crazy but why would you change an entire exhaust system, but not want to move a wire? I also don't understand the point of putting an o2 bung in if you can't use it anyways? I relayed this back and am waiting to hear back.

I don't know if anyone else is having a similar issue with tuning or auto tuning but if so then this may be why (or not). I have another Bassani on my Dyna and thing is top notch. Not sure what's up or why they did this.

Not sure of the answer to your questions, but I suspect it has to do with marketing and ease of install for most end users....

Most people want their exhausts to be bolt-on and go. I suspect when just using a tune map with OEM sensors, the O2 sensor works well enough in that location. If you had to modify the front O2 sensor wire to make the header work, they would probably get more more complaints...

I'll be interested to read what they say....

PS- FWIW, I bought a set of Vance & Hines Big Shot staggered exhaust for my 2003 Heritage. My '03 Heritage doesn't use O2 Sensors, but I wanted to run an Auto Pro session with wide band O2 sensors. I found the V&H front O2 sensor port in the same position as you find the Bassani.
