I heard it was possible to put a 160 tire on a 2000 softail standard without doing any major mods. Does anyone know if this is possible. I just ordered a 18x4.25 rear wheel and would like to go bigger than the stock 130. Thanksin advance for any info.
You will probably have to make new spacers to get the wheel centered, use jamb nuts on the strut bolts and then cut the bolts off to be flush with the jamb nuts, especially if you have your bike lowered in the rear. I did just this on my 01 softail in the picture below Metzler 160/18. It really fills up the rear fender, cant get your pinky finger between the tire and fender on either side.
Thanks for the help, is the 18x4.25 rim wide enough for the 160 and what about the rear caliper, I heard that you have to get a duece caliper.by the way Peck, your bike looks awsome.
That reminds me on the caliper, mine had to be shaved down in an effort to get the wheel centered in the fender, my wheel is 18 x 4.25 as well. Thanks for a compliments on my sickle, she is like one of the family.
