Help! Don't know how to fix this trans/clutch problem.

Help! Don't know how to fix this trans/clutch problem.
I was out riding my 2000 FXST Softail Standard and after maybe 10 minutes of riding, I went to shift and I when I pulled back on the clutch lever I felt it collapse into the grip. The clutch wouldn't reset and I was stuck in 3rd. Luckily there was a parking lot near by to turn around and traffic was slow that I was able to stay in 3rd all the way back home where I let it stall out. I pulled the exhaust off to get to the cable/transmission housing better thinking it would be an easy cable swap job but to my surprise the cable was just fine. I don't know if there is something more serious that happened or what but my clutch wont pull back after I squeeze it in and try to engage the gears. Any thoughts on what could of happened? There were no shards or anything upon opening the transmission cover and the oil was clean.

Welcome to the forums first off, if you are sure both ends of the cable are good next stop is pull the primary cover and look at he clutch pac and adjustment, going to be one or the other.
