Don't know if I'll be the first or not but just ordered the XL Classic 2018 Softail Saddlebags from LeatherPro. Looking foward to installing them. The price will be worth it just to get rid of those ugly studs. Will have set of stock bags for sale shortly thereafter.
Shown mounted on a Deluxe, but they also fit the Heritage.
Keep ridin'
Garry
Is it possible to see the inside of the bag and the locking mechanism? Does the top lift hinge from the inside or the outside? Also what is the cubic foot storage capacity?
So I like the leather pros solution for saddlebags & why wouldn't I, BUT...……heres food for thought - buy a new Heritage, saddle bags suck (I told you so) buy new saddlebags (extra $700) that simulate the same style which came before the M8 softail -Hmmm - very interesting!

Extra $800, but whos counting.
There is something to be said about the looks of the pre '18 Heritage's. The '18 Heritage bags just don't look right. They were obviously a totally new concept to suit the new chassis. They don't look like the hard bags on their bigger brothers nor do the look like their predesessors. Maybe if they were sized well, had properly openimg lids with a good secure locking latch and maybe had a touch of old school to their appearence....then, just maybe, they might have been acceptable. Since the Heritage is sorta a crossover, being almost but not quite, into the touring category, H-D shoujld have maybe developed two different bags as options...old school look like those LetherPro is now making or a set of Hardbags color matched to the bike like its bigger brothers. I would have loved to have that difficult choice when I bought my Cherry.
How can a CLASSIC not look like a Classic (JMHO).

Totally agree & the saddlebags are one of the main reasons I backed away - there are other reasons but... . My wife & I like to do a lot of 2 up extended weekend riding & those bags just wouldn't cut it, Glad to see an option!
I like the new heritage. The bags and most of the blacked out parts don't do it for me. It is a good running and handling bike. Those new bags look nice but for $800. That seems kinda steep. Maybe I'll find a used one someday I can afford to mod into my vision of what this bike could be.

I have had no issue with my bags staying latched. But I do press down on the lids until I feel a positive latch. I also don't dislike the bags. I could do without the studs. But not willing to spend hundreds of dollars to be rid of them. The bags are what they are and I'm fine with them. Sounds like a lot of people aren't.

Approximately 7 x13” lid opening. Don’t know the cubic inches yet, but for volume comparison, each side will hold approximately 35 twelve ounce beverage cans.
