What size bolt do I need to replace the pins attaching my pegs? I see bolt kits on places like J&P, but doesn't show the sizes. I'm hazarding a guess it's probably 5/16", but I'd really like to have a clear answer before I go spending money trying to find the right ones. I'd like to get this sorted out tomorrow if I can.
If you don't have the old bolts to match, measure the foot peg bracket to determine the length you need. Then, take the peg with you to the store and find the largest bolt that fits through the hole.
Yeah... not going to harley for that... I really don't need to be charged $40 for $1 worth of bolts. Plus tomorrow's Sunday.

Well, Harley's footpeg bolt kit is not $40 and it's not $0.99 either. It's $25 for the two bolts, washers and nuts. They are chrome which adds to the price.
As I said. 4180 Screw, Button Head Torx. $1.00 each. (2)
7667 Nut Hex Lock $2.00 each. (2)
50912-72 Spring Washer. $4.00 each. (2) If needed. You didn't mention these. Can be purchased a lot cheaper at Amazon. No were near $40.00, less than $25.00. This is my cost to attach 2 foot pegs. Also got 10% off of list price. $17.90 out the door.

BeagleBoy, I finally got my footpegs off today. If you're wondering about the pegs on an M8 mine were 3" long overall and are 3/8 with a 16 tpi thread count. Half of the bolt is shoulder, and half is threads. They are a T45 Torx or a TP40 Torx Plus knurled socket head.
