Default Softail Safe Mode???

I have heard of safe modes on the Harley dressers, but am not familiar with a safe mode for the older Twin cam Softails. Call I have an Intake Air Temp low voltage trouble code and just read that the trouble code might put the bike into a safe mode. Anyone know if this feature existed for 2001 Softails? Also wondering what exactly the bike does in the safe mode to allow you to limp to a shop or home for repairs?

I had an '01 Deuce and I do not recall a safe or "limp home" mode on it. I'm the kinda guy that reads every word in the owners and maintenance manuals (except all the warnings that say yer gonna die) and I believe I would remember if there were such a thing.
