This is my first Harley and I love it. It's been a few years since I have owned a bike, last was an '82 honda magna V45. Anyways, the first 1000 mile service on my new bike was included in the purchase. So I brought it in last saturday for the service since it was free. To my knowlegde on the first service all 3 oils plus the engine oil filter is to be changed correct? Well after they were done I did a little inspecting to see just what they had done. First off they did not drain the oil out of the crankcase as the plug still had the factory sealer on the threads plus I don't think they changed the oil filter! The plug on the primary was a little damp so maybe they changed the oil in there. Not for sure if they messed with the trans at all. I didn't say anything about it because I didn't want to get into a squable and be on bad terms with the service department. I purchasedthe 3 yr extended warranty for a total of 5 yrs so... Just didn't want to get off on the wrong foot if you feel me. Any thoughts? I plan to change the oils myself from here on.
RE: First harley, first post, not happy with dealer
Usually your gut instinct is the right one.I would confront them, but just do it nicely.Whoever you talk to may not like at first, but will respest you later.

Welcome to the Harley experience!
I took my ride for service at the dealer. Went and picked it up, when I got home there was a message from the dealer (service dept), so Icall 'em back end they tell me that they made a mistake, "don't move the bike" -they said - "we made a mistake and your tranny has no oil in it" WHAT??????????????
Next thing, me on my computer writing a letter (which I made 'em sign) taking full resposibility for any further transmission malfunction in my bike. Yeap, my tranny is good for life, free of charge.

Check the oil stick, how is the viscosity? you can tell if it's fresh or old oil. Talk toyou salespersonand explain your feelings. You are the customer, YOU bring money to them, and they should treat you with respect. Sometimes the workers are lazy and their managers "trust" them too much and they can get away with anything. Maybe a "jiffy-lube" kind ofinvestigation is in order. Remember you are not asking for any favors. I'd take itto another dealer, pronto, and had it "oficially" examined so you can have grounds to argue. Good luck.

If you are looking at the crankcase, hope youunderstand that the oil is not drained from the crankcase, it's drained from the oil tank. Unless you've ridden quite a bit since the chance you should be able to tell if the crankcase oil is new or not. The rest, you'll just have to trust them or if you are uneasy about it, just change it yourself and move on.

Someone once told me to put nail polish marks in areas where you expect the bike to be serviced by the dealer then check to see if the marks had been disturbed when you pick it up.

Exactly. You can tell if it's new oil in there or not. If it isn't go back over and either talk to your sales guy or the service manager. You've paid for it so they should do it

I learned long ago that it is impossible to "have the sh*ts" with anybody other than yourself... usually my your own inability to act or say what you meant to at the right time.
You NOT confronting the dealer over that incident will most definitely be one of those things you will be most angry at yourself over (not them). I STRONGLY suggest you confront them over this. They have ripped you off and you should hammer them for it provided you are sure that they didn't do what they were supposed to.
