Absolutely zero but I'm going to have to learn the basics at a minimum.

2008 softail heritage deluxe. I just need to carry the basics so I can have my own just in case.

I carry a selection of wrenches in sizes I need to tighten or adjust something, as well as a multi-bit screwdriver, vise grips, hex keys, adjustable wrench, wire cutters and vise grips. I also carry an assortment of nuts and bolts in the sizes I might need as well as duct tape and wire. Not the whole roll, I just wrap some around a wrench. I have a hex key in the size I need to remove the seat and a 10mm wrench to disconnect the battery.

I also pack a small flashlight (in case I break down at night). Also a spare headlight bulb.

Over the years, I find I've used the tools as often to repair someone else's bike as my own.

Just Rose, I like the Cruztools kit for Harley. I've used it to put on accessories and it really does have pretty much everything you could need. I figure, even if I don't know how to fix something, if someone else does, at least I have the tools with me for them to use. I also have another bag with some different sized wrenches and a socket set. It has all the different allen wrenches, torx, screwdriver sizes, spark plug extractor, etc. I carry it with me. You can get it a pretty much any online moto store, the pic below is from Revzilla.

Here's the Cruztools kit:

Rose,
Do you have a parts and accessories catalog? If ya do just take a look in there at some of the small tool kits in the Garage section.
You don't even have to buy the Harley tools. You can go to Harbor Freight and put yourself a nice little tool bag to carry with you pretty cheap.
It's not like you're going to be doing a rebuild along the road.
I would think all you'll need is just the very bacics and a few things others mentioned here like a tire pressure guage, duct and electrical tape, and so on.
Definitely a small flashlight too.
One things for sure if ya have it with you you probably won't ever need it!
Good luck to you and be safe!

The ones I use the most are a set of allen keys, including torx. A small vice grip. A combo screwdriver. Electrical tape and zip ties. Anything else and problem would be too serious. One other gadget that gets lots of use (beside the obvious cell phone) is a small battery jumpstart like anti gravity. Lots of people have dead batteries, and can charge the phone. Lasts quite a long time on a charge (up to 6 months) I believe. I carry it in the car and bike.

Cable ties, a torch, a Gerber and tape are all I carry. I'm more interested in holding the bike together if I crash than doing any repairs. And I'm a member of the British equivalent of AAA.

Just a road side recovery card,.... If you feel the need to repair besides the road, and as you state you are not mechanically inclinded, you probably won't be successful in making the repair.

Get some-one else to do it for you.

If you want to learn maintaining a bike, join one of the courses that are available (I even think HD does one!), that way you get taught it right and learn it do it right.

Goodluck and welcome to the crazy side!!

Here's the Cruztools kit:

This is pretty helpful, especially the part of having the tools even if you don't know enough, someone will. It's good to have even while you get your skill sets up. This will take time.

In the limited bag space I have on my Softail I carry quite a few items. I have a KaBar Becker BK2 bush knife for utility and defense. I carry a 1.5 liter of gas in a fuel cell wrapped in a towel so no vibration wears through, this is important, my mileage varies and I don't trust gauges. I carry an emergency med kit with Celox in a Pelican case. Tool kit. Roll of quarters in a waterproof cylinder with compressed napkins. A bota bag of water due to the fact I live in the desert. A plug kit with CO2. Surefire flashlight, I prefer the large Maglites but I'm running out of room by now. A couple spare mags in a pouch. Probably forgot a couple things. All of this fits in my leather low side saddlebag. The other bag I keep clothing in.

I ride alone in the middle of nowhere, as Santana would say "I ain't got no one to depend on."
