My 07 Custom's check engine and battery light came on while riding today. I checked the code and it came up voltage regulator. My question is, would it be okay to ride it to my local indy to have them check it out? Bike runs fine and i just changed the battery. Thanks for any input.
You'll be able to ride it as far as the battery's charge will allow you to. Once it's depleted, you're going to be on the side of the road with a cellphone in your hand.
The VR fault may be low voltage or high voltage. Measure the voltage at the battery if you can with the bike running. If its too high, like higher than 15 volts, you could damage your new battery by overcharging it. It should read about 14 volts. I think a diagnostic fault appears at 16v.

I don't know how it could know it's the regulator if the voltage was low. If the code is just the voltage level, it's not a VR code and you can't assume the VR is the problem. In a low voltage issue, you have to eliminate the stator before moving to the VR. If the voltage is too high, it points to the regulator.

this...
happened to me without warning, bike had the chrome cover over the VR, it overheated and left us on side of the road between Beaumont and Houston
Just replace the regulator with a Cycle Electrics.
If it fixes your problem they you’ll save a Dealer service charge and you’ll have the best aftermarket regulator.
If it doesn’t fix your problem at least you’ll have the best aftermarket regulator.
