I had aftermarket pipes, intake upgrade and PCIII done before i took delivery of my new FXSTC. The dealer did not hesitate doing these mods to a brand new bike. I have heard mechanics mention they do not like doing these mods until the bike has 500 to 1000 miles on it due to the valves seating better with backpressure on the engine. Any comments on this?
Modern production engines need far less break-in time than they did 30 or more years ago.
Production tollerances are far closer today than they were then and as a consequenceengines just doesn't need as much time to settle in.
Most of the guys who tell you that are really old school or old school trained. Its true that any engine needs time to seat things, its just that they don't need it as much or for as long as they used to. Don't worry about it, just take it easytill the 1000 mile checkup, then ride it like you stole it.
