Default 07 Purchasing Advice (This week or two months)

A couple of months ago I sold my 99 RKC with the intent of getting an 07 RK (I didn't realize that a new transmission and engine were in the making). I was ready for something new and was tired of keeping the white walls, spokes, and leather bags looking good. That said, the RKC is an awesome looking bike.

The 07's have arrived and I have a deposit on a Vivid Black Road King Standard. It was shipped from MoCo on 7/28 and should be here any day.

However, I keep seeing some posts of the 07 transmissions being noisy in 5th gear, transmission fluid draining out unexpectedly, and the engine running hotter than expected. Furthermore, I was also going to put the SE Performance slip-on mufflers along with the Stage1 and ECM download (both are unavailable until 10/06). I did call MoCo and they said I could go ahead and install the SE slip-on mufflers and the bike would still run fine and no issues with the warranty. (They reiterated - as long as the pipes are "street legal")

OK, my dilemma is this - do I get the bike arriving in a day or so; or wait a couple more months to see how the 07's shake out. Admittedly, it's tough not having a bike on the weekends, especially when I can hear them roaring down my country road.

Forget all the caution stuff: throw it to the wind and get busy riding. Some dealers dont even have the 07 yet so I find it a bit suspect that so much info is alredy out on the 07.You know what they say:if the lips are moving????

I'd wait a couple of weeks, maybe a month. I'm staying on the sidelines..........haven't seen any road tests or gotten any real world feedback. Not that I'm throwing cold water on the '07 drivetrain, but I'm still wondering about the warranty issues the MoCo might hit the end user with if he/she adds an aftermarket exhaust or other item(s) on said drivetrain.

I'll be in the market with you late in '07 or early '08 as my '04 RG will have 30K or better on the clock. So I'm very much interested in some hard results.

Buy the dang bike. Sheesh. Paranoia self-destroya.
Can you count the times someone has posted about their 01,02,03,04,05,06 bike leaking oil, transmission being noisy, engine running hot etc etc? I mean, at least they've tried to address all those issues in the new 07's. I've never heard so many people so freaked out about an engine upgrade and a new transmission. Basically those people in my eyes are saying the MOCO CANNOT build a good machine. And if thats the case...go buy a metric and quit all the whining.......I mean dang!!!

But if your happy with all the OLD complaints stick with the OLD stuff. I mean I've never tired of the "my bike runs hot, my engine vibrates too much, my valve guides are leaking on my 05, my my my" posts that fill this place up regular. Aren't we all ready for some new complaints. Out with the old in with the new.

God bless the 07 Harleys.......................

Hell buy two of them. Do what ever you want to, to one of them as far as mod's. Then if the EPA comes down on you, you can alway's ride the stock one and give me the other one. Problem solved.

Harley51, get the bike! If you don't want it let me know and I might take it.

Seriously, take it when it comes in. You won't be sorry. You will be if you just sit and wait for the perfect bike to be built that will never have any possibility of problems.

HD didn't get where they are today by bringing out bad motorcycles.

We will all expect to see pictures of you on the 07 in a week.

I've had my 07 RD for a week now and 300 miles. So far so good. Only thing I have found is neutral is a little hard to find but no biggy. Other then that. all is great! After all, you have a 2 year warranty.

Here are pics

I personally would wait, I have had several new owners of 07's talk to me about the heating issue and furthoremore there is no parts out their yet to help this issue. Wait it out for a couple of months, you will be glad you did. I talked to a couple this past weekend with an 07 ultra and they have parked their BRAND NEW BIKE because the heat off the exhaust actually hurts the passanger (his wife). Just my $0.02. They are great bikes, just need to breathe better and not be constricted to one pipe and poor intake flow.
