Default Charging

Read a 562 code and it had a "PN" of 41083-316.

Can't find this part on the HD site.

This is a 2010 Fat Bob and I just changed out the battery and the voltage regulator. Obviously this wasn't the issue.

This bike is low miles (12K) and was built in LA and came with no paper work. Just had a Harley-Davidson mechanic put a new ECU in it and had it tuned on a dyno. Got it back and it ran great for another couple of hundred miles and stranded me in Reno and now it's throwing out this code relating to the charging system.

The mechanic suggested changing out the stator.

A mechanic should know how to test the stator rather than just saying :"change it out". It sounds like the stator - that should have been tested before replacing the regulator. It can get pretty expensive replacing parts to try and solve an effect without knowing the problem.

Unplug the stator from the voltage regulator and use an ohmmeter to see if any of the three separate pins has a short to each other or ground. If you read a short anywhere, the stator is shot. Remove the derby cover and you'll know if the stator is burned by the smell...It is quite strong.
