Default Question on New Purchase

Hey guys,
I recently purchased a 2018 Fat Bob with a 107. Dealer did not have any 114's in stock in the color scheme that i wanted. I got a really good deal on the 107 which is why I bought it. Fun bike and my main use for it is for around town and some freeway use. I happened to go to the dealer just recently and they now have a 2018 fat bob with a 114 in the same color scheme as the 107 I just bought two weeks ago. My question is, is it worth it to go and trade in the 107 for the 114? Not sure if i will lose money or how much more i would pay as i did get a good discount on the 107. Thoughts?

I would ask the dealer what the cost difference would be in order to fairly assess the situation. Then you can ask yourself, Is it worth $XX to trade in/purchase. The conversion kit 107 to 114 from HD is $2700 plus labor.

Can you live with the 107 with an eye to the future conversion?

If it was my money, as much as I would preach to myself to bite the bullet and get what I really want, I'm cheap and would "settle" with what I have with the intention of converting knowing that the likelihood of me ever making that future investment is slim to none.

Yes, you will lose money. Your two week old Harley is a used bike.

Only you can decide if the larger engine is worth the thousands of dollars it will cost you. But I can guarantee you this....the dealer will make it seem like it’s your best choice. Because it’s not every day they milk a customer on two new sales AND a used sale.

Oh, and beware the use of the term “investment.” Absolutely NOTHING about a run of the mill HD is an investment; in fact it is the exact opposite. You are assured of losing money.

Depends on what deal you get.
114 is a better platform if you're wanting more power in the future. If not, then it's probably not going to be worth taking the trade-in hit.

All very good points. i honestly do not see myself doing anything other then a stage 1 if that. I was just not sure if 114 engine was worth the trade over 107 power and performance wise in stock form.

If you May or May Not do a stage one, and do not plan to do anything above that, then I would HIGHLY recommend you do not trade in a two week old 107 for a 114.

Once again proving the theory of getting what you want (with in reason) or you'll never be happy & always wishing you would have paid a little more, waited just a bit longer. Good luck to you in your decision.

New, there is a $1300 difference. I have a 114 Fat Boy and I really like it's performance in stock condition. I have not done a test ride on a 107 but I am glad and very happy I bought the 114. If you really wish you had a 114 then probably a $2k to $3k cost of trade would be reasonable but after getting a dollar figure I would then ask the dealer what a 2019 would cost. It's your money and your desire but if you are like me and many others you will not be completely happy without the one you love.

The 114 does have a bit more grunt, but it's not a massive difference. Probably best to go demo the 114 and then decide if it's really worth it to you.

Like said above I’d check the difference in trading in vs doing the big bore kit. But me personally I’ve learned my lesson too many times by dicking with the motor on some of my diesel trucks. I would prolly bite to bullet and know that I have a factory 114, reason behind it if you ever sell I think you’d be better off selling a factory bike vs a brand new one bored out. Someone may think you had probs with a new bike and avoid it. Just my 2 cents
