I went upside down with my mirrors. The right mirrors will give you full view. Once I adjusted them correctly, I have full range of view without moving my head. I can glance down at either mirror and see very clearly all around me.
I dont run apes, but I use the Arlen Ness micro-mini ovals on my 18 Deluxe. They work great, and it really cleans up the bars, IMO.
