Default Need help to understand this problem!

Hey guys, I have a 06 Softail Deluxe and recently, every now and then, when I go to start it up, both my Trip A and Trip B gets reset. I can't figure out what's causing this. It's just a but frustrating being that I use Trip B to keep track of the mileage for my oil. If it helps the bike is fuel injected. I appreciate any help!

Start by checking your battery. You can have it load tested or put a meter on it and see how low the voltage drops when you are cranking it over.

I would check the battery voltage and cable connections are clean and tight. You could have a battery that is at the end of its servicable life. When the starter tries to spin it pull the voltage so low which causes the system to reset.
Battery voltage should be at lease 12.67 volts
Battery voltage while cranking at lease 9.6 Volts

Mine will do the same thing and it's a sign that your battery is beginning to give out. With a weakening battery, the voltage drop you get when you hit the starter is enough to cause the odometer to reset. I view it as a battery early warning system.

Mine did it to me just the other day, so it's time to start thinking about a new battery..

Bad electrical connection. Does the same thing when you remove the battery. You need to start at the battery and work to speedometer connection. Put a voltmeter on the charger wire or battery and see what voltage is going to when cranking. Below 9.6 means bad connection or worn out battery or a battery that needs a good long low (below 1 amp always) amp charge
