I have a beard, but it is short so it is not bothered by the wind, however, the fangs and recurve windshield dramatically reduces helmet buffeting and keeps wind off my face.
6' tall here. Installed the Fangs that were on my '14 Road King on my '18 Heritage softail, stock windshield. 100 % stopped any buffeting and any wind on my beard or chest.........Even at the speed limiter 110 or so.
Just spooned on a set of Dunlop Elite 4's, they feel great as most of my riding is fast on the twisty Smokey Mountain roads.
I tried the fangs and a LRS recurve windshield on my '14 FLSTC.
Still had lots of wind going on underneath me. Also didn't like how the fangs rendered my quick release windshield to be non-quick release :\
But yeah it was so bad that my pants legs would blow up over my knees. Not that I don't have nice looking calves and all, but I'd prefer not to have that much updraft going on under/around me.
Was thinking about checking out a HD Wind Splitter windshield. Thinking that the vent would hopefully eliminate the updraft.

Anybody try the Wind Splitter on their Softail?
FWIW, I'm about 5'9" and 180lbs.
1. I'm betting you installed the Fangs incorrectly. If they are installed correctly, there is no interference with removing/replacing the Windshield
2. I have personally found that certian kinds of pants that are light weight and a loose fit will baloon and blow up my legs (right leg more the the left for some reason). Most riders like jeans of some kind that are generally somewhat tight fitting so balooning is not often a problem, but I prefer a looser fit cargo pant style. I solved the balooning probem by finding a heavier weight riding pant from LA Police Gear and making sure they were hemed a little longer than my walk around pants. No balooning problems now. (BTW, and JFYI, the LAPG pants are almost waterproof as they shed the rain very nicely when cought in the rain for a short period of time.)
3. Don't really know how much air you want to take away down low as this is what keeps the engine cool.
4. I personally like the air on my legs to take the engine heat off my legs, but then my riding is in warm country.
5. I can't help with the Wind Splitter...have no first hand information, but can't see how a vent would change the bottom air flow much.
I have a Heritage with the fangs, windshield, etc, and if your beard is long like mine it will still blow up in your face.
Real simple...go to Wally World and buy you a box of small rubber twist ties. Cost around $4. I usually tie on 3 on my beard if I hit the highway or go on a trip....
When i get tired of tying it up I wear a mask like the one in my sig. Keeps the beard down, no sunburn, works good in cooler weather.....
