I'm considering a Power Commander for my 2002 Softail Heritage.
I have SE II slip-ons, SE Air Cleaner, and the chip upgrade.
I have two questions after looking at the Power Commander website "Map Database":
1) The "chip upgrade" was the term that my HD dealer used. Is this the "Stage I ECU" referred top in the Power Commander map database?
2) When I look at the Power Commander map database for 2002 Softails, I don't see any maps for SE II slip-ons. I would think think that my configuration would be very common. Am I missing something??
I would assume that chip upgrade is Stage 1. Your best source for advice is to email or call Dynojet directly. They sent me a modified map for my bike and set up that works very well. I have not put it on a dyno, and probably won't.
Stage 1/ reflash/download/upgraded ECM/chip all mean about the same thing. It refers to an upgrade of the stock ECM to a later version map for the data that runs your engine and systems.
Your setup is fairly common and if they don't show a map for your components, a call to them would be your best bet for their suggestions, or they could possible alter a map for you.
