Bought a 2002 FXSTD carb model Deuce. Came with full set of new 2004 take off, black sheet metal. Box says both FXSTD and FXSTDI (handwritten with pen). How can I tell if its a fuel injected tank or for Carb? Is there a difference. Has only one plug on bottom for fuel line or petcock. Would like to change to the black from luxury red.
Appreciate any help.
I could be wrong, but I think the carb tanks have the petcock fitting on the left side and the FI tanks have the fuel fitting come out on the right side.
They all have the fuel outlet on the left side. You can use the tins from a fuel injected bike on your carb bike no problem. They are interchangeable with each other. It's a matter of getting the right fuel outlet(quick disconnect or a petcock)and top block off plate.

Deuce gas tanks all have the hole(s) on the left side. If it has only one hole on the left side on the bottom of the tank, then it's a carb tank. The EFI tanks have two holes, one right in front of the other. Either will work for a carb bike. You would just have to put a threaded plug in the one hole on the EFI tank to make it work for a carb set up since the petcock only fits in the one hole.
I believe the reserve has to do with the petcock, not the tank itself. I was told both tanks are basically the same inside but there are two differences. The EFI tank has two holes andthe extra plumbing& fuel pump suspended from the bottom of the trap door under the dash that hangs into the tank. The carb tank has just one hole which the petcock fits into and no fuel pump.
