Softail Slim Front Fender?

I removed my front fender to have the paint touched up and I am not sure which direction to re-install it. At first it appears not to matter since the fender is symmetrical, but 1 end is curled under and the other end is smooth?

On my fat boy the curled end goes towards the back and smooth end is front

My Slim has the curled end pointed forward and the smooth end pointed down to the asphalt.
