Default Plastic under tank panel?

Hey guys! Just bought an oem tank panel from harley. Noticed that behind there is a black plastic piece, see pic. Wouldn't this scratch the paint on the tank?

Thxs

I’d be a little worried. I got a tank bib from mustang that has a felt back.

It's going to be the same coverage as the original panel that rubbed on the paint since 2003, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.

Before install, I will install this 3m vinyl protector to protect the paint. Cheap and very useful.

Good idea! Maybe I'll add this or some felt? Thxs

Why would they sell the panels with plastic in the back??

Looks like there's cloth on the back to protect the paint, just double side tape a full length of cloth on there if you worry about it.

my 05 FXSTSI had a plastic / hardy rubbery tank bib originally. Terrible way to save a buck. Lucky the bike didn’t have a lot of miles when I bought it. There was some hair scratches from it but not too bad.
