Default 01 fxsti

Hi all. I have an 01 FXSTI. I've noticed that when I turn the key on my turn signals blink 4 or times. I don't remember exactly when this started, but its been doing this now for several years and I've been trying to figure this out on and off, via various forums etc. etc. It didn't always do this (at least I don't think it did .
I've been told by others that this means there is 'something' wrong, somewhere.
I went to the 'stealership' and they had nothing to offer.

The bike seems to run fine, but I'm pretty sure it's telling me something. Just not sure what.

Does anyone have any ideas on this, or possibly experienced similar issues?

OR, and I nuts and this is just what it does when you turn the key on as part of some 'pre-check'?

Thx in advance

this might not help answer your question, but I checked my bike to see exactly what it does
all lights blink/flash once when I turn off the alarm. when I turn the **** to "ignition" the lights illuminate but do not flash

My 02 Fat Boy will flash like that if there is a bulb burned out. Had it happen last weekend. Right front turn signal was out.

Thx guys.

Well, I continue to be stumped by this.
I checked all the codes (ie start switch on, then hold odo reset and turn on ign key switch). All 10 are DxxCLr
Then, I read where you can jumper the 1 and 2 pins on the DTC connector under the seat. Did this as well and I get no codes (no extra blinking sequences of the check engine light,
which as I read means there are no codes).
So then I was reading more and someone had mentioned in a forum that after you change bulbs you may have to reset the TSM by
1- key/ign switch on
2- turn left turn signal on and let blink at least 5 times. Turn off left turn signal
3- repeat on right turn signal
4- turn off ign switch.

After I did that, I still get the front turn signals blink 6 times after I turn on the ign switch.

So Gas Smasher..... YOur 02 fatboy is pretty close to my 01 std I think.

So based on what you stated, after you replaced the bulb, when you turn the key switch on (doesn't seem to matter for me if the run switch is on or off), you DO NOT get
the front turn signals blinking multiple times?

Also, what about the REAR turn signals?
Mine are OFF all the time. I believe they are just turn signals and not 'running lights'.
Am I right on this? (cause if I'm not, then maybe that is the issue).

Unfortunately I just do not remember if my rear signals were on (except when using the turn signals).
I can't really tell from the HD maintenance manual

Thx

My Fat Boy has an integrated LED taillight, but as I recall the rear turn signals were just 2 wire lights, so turn only and no running light. Front light are 1157 bulbs (2 element) rears were 1156 (single element). I never had to do any kind of re-calibration after changing bulbs. Just replace the bad one and everything is normal.

My best guess is that something in the turn signal module is not reading a correct value or the module itself might not be working properly. The security systems were tied into turn signal modules on these. I have never owned a bike with a security system, so I really don't know much about them, but there was a TSM (Turn Signal Module) and a TSSM (Turn Signal Security Module) The security modules can get wonky if they loose battery voltage. That is where the re-calibration stuff comes in. If your bike has a security system it could be a problem there.

The only things I know of that give you the flashing turn indicators are: a bad bulb, stored codes, something with the security system.

People on here definitely know more about this stuff than I do, and somebody on here knows how to trouble shoot this and help you. Finding them or getting them to see your thread is the tough thing. I would suggest going to Google and try searching several different variations of the problem you are having and see what you come up with. I have found things on here by putting Harley Davidson Forums after the description of what I was searching for. I have found stuff that way that I couldn't find using the forum search .

Be sure you post anything to learn or figure out. I'll be watching so I can learn too.

Thx Gas Smasher.. .Will do. I'll keep digging. I do not have a security system, so I think that rules that part out. I have done some searching via google and have found various items, but none match. Most guys seem to end up with codes of some sort, whereas I don't have any (at least that I can find). I'll keep at it and update when I figure it out. Thx
