Default Windshield on FLSTN

Anybody else have a problem with the top of the King-Sized windshield (57140-05) being in your line of sight? Anybody have the Lexan trimed a few inches so you could see over it? What was the effect on the wind protection? Any buffeting? Where did you have it done? The glass places in my neighborhood said they don't worked on curved palstic! I would've gone with the low-profile screen if HD offered it in clear, but smoked is the only option.

I don't have a Deluxe but my 03 Fatboy came with the king sized windshield and like you the top edge was in my line of sight and I would have to either look over it or slouch and look thru it. I almost spent the money and bought a 2" lower windshield, but from advice and a "how to cut down a windshield" from this form, I lowered it myself and you can't tell the new 2 1/4" lower edge from the removed factory edge. I now look clearly over the windshield. I wear a 1/2 helmet and wind buffeting is almost nill. Lowering the windshield has been the best thing I have done to my scoot to make the riding experience more enjoyable. (I am 6' tall).

In the DIY section there is a thread dedicated to cutting your windshield, complete with pictures. It is under "Chassis, Suspension and Brakes."

I have done several, all with good results. Takes less than hour if you really take your time.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill

I just had the windshield of my softail trimmed down about 1-1/2 inches. It was done at a shop that my dealer recommended, which shop is experienced in doing these things...they did a fantastic job - and smoothed out the edges so that they feel like glass, unlike the roughness that it came with. I certainly did not feel qualified to do it myself! Cost me $35.00
