I put them on my Superglide. They are functional because I have highway pegs on them. The SG is a mid-control bike and it gives me a place to stretch my legs. I also wanted them for the protective aspect not only because of a accident on the road but also if I'm stupid enough to forget to put the jiffy stand down before I let go of it - or if someone knocks it over when I'm not attending to it. I know from past experience it helps on a road accident. I had to dump my Honda 750 once and it kept the bike off my leg, took all except minor abrasions to the speedometer, clutch lever and the footpeg. No other visable damage to the bike. The crash bar absorbed the fall.
I've got a bagger, so the crash bar is on. Wouldn't put it on a bar hopper or Duece.
Slid down the road once on this bike, and the crash bar was wrecked, as was the rear chrome luggage surround, but limited other damage, so they did their jobs.
Interesting commens all. The Deuce sits sans "engine guard" or "crash bar" (whichever name you prefer). I kind'a like it that way, so I think engine guards must wait. I've decided that I won't drop it! But, if I do, I'll fix her up like someone else suggested with a "different look".
Jezcruzen, I have a Deuce and I have never seen a crash bar on one and I think that it just would not look right on a Deuce, kind of like saddle bags and a windshield, If you have long legs? you my want to extend your controls,Kuryakyn has a 3 inch extended forward controls at a pretty good price and then also add the H-Davidson heel rest on your pegs, That made mine alot more comfortable on long rides. 01 Wilddeuce
I thought I wanted an engine guard. Then I saw a friends Heritage with what turned out to be Kuryakyn Cruise Arm. If you don't want to change the look of the bike, but have a Highway Peg, I'd recommend this. The engine guard will drastically change the look. The cruise arms mount to the floorboards.
