I've been there Jim, and it's not a good feeling.
The bars do serve their purpose.
Fact is, the crash I was in with my FLH, had I not had the crash bars I know I would have lost my leg. Because when the cage turned in front of me, I T-boned him and the bike slammed into the car.

On a second note... just recently a guy told me he thought the bar was partially to blame for the bad accident he was in. He said a truck pulling a trailor stopped in front of him and as he swerved the bar is what caught the trailor and ended up dragging him.

You can draw your own conclusion.

And with that said, I have a crash bar I'm going to put on my Roadster!

I tell ya Rick, you really just don't know, could be good or bad - depends on whats happening at the time, but I'm with you - I'll keep the bars[sm=exactly.gif]

My wold man had set on his '02 deuce. They really didnt look bad. He is a tall guy and on trips over an hour he loved having the ability to stretch out a bit. If you are going just for looks skip em. If you want long ride comfort you need them.
Good luck

I put a set on my Fat Boy for someplace to stretch out my legs .. now I am taking them off and will install forward controls for the comfort factor.

Just put the new mustache bar on my 04 heritage and really like the looks of it over the conventional engine guard.

This has been a great thread as I've been kicking around the idea of getting some for my fatboy but I'm still not sure if I like the look myself, but the H-D Mustache Engine Guard's look really sharp o I may be sold.....

Well, I started this thread and I guess its time to eat a little crow. You see, I was searching for guidence on whether to install enigine guards on my Deuce. I thought that the guards would look bad. In fact, I was worried about looking like some kind'a WEENIE for having them. I stated that I would not! Well....I now have them. Yes....I put them on my "vicious" looking Deuce. Hey, they don't look THAT BAD!
