Having trouble ajusting hand brake were it just barely touches the brake switch but not enough to shut brake light off

 

The switch is a normally closed switch and closes (makes contact) when the switch is released.

 

I feel kind of dumb asking this question (because the op is probably long gone...), but...

WTF model and year bike?
