FATBOY basic question
Me and my buddy built me a 98 Fatboy. It rides good and will get me all over the country I don't have any issues with it. After the build I noticed I need to replace the speedometer. No biggie it works just not really accurate. The speedometer is obsolete and I have not found a new replacement. And no I am not looking or thinking about getting rid of it.
April 2020 I am going to get on my Harley and actually hit all 4 corners of the country. Gonna hit the tip of washington the bottom of california the bottom of florida and the top Maine.
Here is the question.
What do you think about the 1st year FI FATBOY? Should I get one this winter and get it ready for the ride?
I am asking as with the parts on the 90's Harley becoming lost would that be the best recommendation?

As far as the speedometer goes, google the speedo part number... there are usually several take-offs on eBay.
I wanted to replace the speedo on my '01 because the dial was very faded... I found a speedo with 200 miles more than my bike had. I bought it, when my bike hit that mileage I swapped them out.
But be aware there is at least one vendor on eBay that opens them up to "refurbish" them. He didn't disclose that his speedo was opened .... not sure what else he does, but I didn't want a speedo that had been obviously tampered with. The telltale marks along the outside of the chrome ring that holds the glass on, gave it away... he took it back, but he didn't understand why opening up the speedo was bad. He obviously hadn't heard of Federal odometer tampering laws, 49 U.S.C. § 32703(2)...
Anyways, I found one that was unmolested...
Your EVO is a solid motor and parts are and probably will always be available.
But if you really want a newer TC Fatboy 2006 and newer do have the O2 sensors and can self tune, they also have the Hyd cam tensioners so no upgrade needed and they still have the full rear fender and a 150 tire ( I like the handling a lot better on the 150 rear tire over the newer with the 2007 and up with the 200 rear tire)
But you can get an earlier for less $ and do the upgrades. im riding a 2005 and its been a great bike, I did the Hyd cam tensioners and a SE204 cam and now have 46,000 miles on it trouble free.

Thanks for the thoughts. Basically ya'll are saying the same thing by buddies dad said just tune it good make sure the tires, breaks and everything is 100% and then just ride. I wouldnt have a problem taking it nation wide I was just thinking worst case.
Plus he said would be cheaper LOL.
