Default Harley Fatboy Question

I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Harley Fatboy and was wondering if 17000 miles was too high? I also want to know if there's anything about the bike i should be aware of... I'm a new rider based on not riding in 15 years and not sure if this bike is made for a particular thing or build.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum, no 17,000 is not a lot of miles providing the regular scheduled maintenance has been performed. Ask for service records if available. The fayboy is a great bike, thats why I own 1.

17K is not bad, seems pretty low actually for that "old" of a scoot. Ask them how long it sat at a time.

Brian, yours is a great example of a Fatboy......

Considering that my scoot is just under two years old and already has 22K on the odometer, I would say that Fatboy you're looking at is pretty "new"!

17,000 miles is not a lot of miles. I wouldn't concern myself about that kind of mileage. Knowing that it had proper maintenance, however .. would be more interesting to me.

My 2002 fatboy has over 65,000 kms .. and still runs like a top. She's been very well looked after, and I expect her to last me many more years yet.

The '02 is the last of the Timken bearing low ends. It's a better bike than a new one in my opinion. I have 47,000+ miles on my carbureted '02 Fat Boy. It's not my only bike. I did a hot rod 95" kit with gear drive cams and a Screamin' Eagle six speed years ago. It's the most trouble free bike I have ever owned. I have had zero, and I mean NO problems at all with this bike in over eight years! Change the cam drive to gears or the new hydraulic tensioner set up and ride trouble free for a long long time.

My 2002 fatboy is at 51K. The main possible issue is the cam chain tensioners, you might want to get those checked, but everything else should run like a top. The 2002 model year is one of the best out there.

17K is not bad at all. I've got over 29K on my 2000 and it still runs like a champ.
