Speedometer problem from he**
I have a 2005 Fatboy that I inherited from my father upon his passing. The speedometer will read 0 when the bike is still but when you start moving it starts reading exponentially fast. At 15mph or so it already pegs out at 120. The odometer also reads damn near 100x too fast. We've replaced the speed sensor and the speedometer at this point and are still having problems. I've listed my trouble codes below and what we've tried. Any ideas on what to try next?
P: P1651
SP: None - but shows part No. 67033-08
I checked the grounds under the seat. Good clean and tight contact.
I checked all the fuses in the fuse box. None are blown.
I read about a possible bad ground to the speed sensor. So I put a power probe to the negative wire of the speed sensor and applied ground. Did not make a difference.
I've been clearing the check engine light p1651 code. It keeps coming back. The check engine light will illuminate for a bit, then turn off, then back on, etc..
Help is much appreciated!
I should also add that I had this in a shop. The guy took a speedometer out of a different bike and put it in mine and he said it worked. He then ordered a used one and it came in wrong a couple times so I ordered one off ebay to throw in and im getting the same problem. The one from ebay the seller said was new purchased from harley programmed at 5000 miles but the customer ended up not wanting to do the work so it was never installed. No way I have 2 bad speedometers, right?
