I have been riding for 30 years, and two years ago, I bought my first Harley Davidson. Two weeks ago, only two months out of warranty, I experienced complete and catastrophic engine failure. The dealer wants $8000 to repair it; the bike is only worth $13,000. Does anyone have experience with something like this with Harley? No one at corporate will take my calls, and the dealer cant really do anything without support from corporate. Is this why Harley is losing clients? I am a vocal supporter of our sport and have brought many new riders over the years. How can I recommend a product that will not last past 2 months our of warranty with all scheduled maintenance performed by the dealer including recalls?
Any help in how to deal with Harley on this would be much appreciated.
What year, make and model? Miles and mods, if any? Did you buy it new or used? What was determined to be the cause of the failure?

I am sorry I guess I should have put in the details. I bought it brand new, 2017 Fatboy S, no mods all stock, broken in according to manufacturer recommendations, and maintained on time by dealer including the clutch recall.
The cause of failure was a stuck push rod according to the dealer. They want to repair it by doing the long block program for a total of $8,000.
Well, let me see, I put 60k miles on my V-Strom, 40k on my first GS, 60k on my GSA 30k of those in one year, and that is just the last three bikes before the Harley. All where sold and are still running today. I would expect that any vehicle I buy will last more than 10k miles and maybe more than two months out of warranty. However, your expectations might be lower than mine, and we all have our own. I am looking for options if anyone has any, as I have searched and tried everything.
What are the thoughts on bringing it home and purchasing an S&S motor to put in there? I see some for $6k or so, but not sure of what it entails. The long block program is part of an engine for $5k from Harley, plus the dealer labor. From what I can tell, the S&S engine is a complete engine for only a thousand more. I have never replaced a Harley motor, but have replaced enough dirt bike engines in the past.
I think you can put a 103 on it for about $3500 plus labor. There really aren't a lot of hours involved in an engine swap..
I guess the cost of the extended warranty doesn't look too bad. I've had two friends save some big bucks with it. One was a complete top end rebuild and the other was a complete motor..
