Default Rear Mud Flap

Has anyone removed the inner mudflap under the rear fender on a softail? I am just curious if this produces alot of dirt and water on the backside of the motor or if there are any concerns with removing this piece of plastic? Any comments appreciated

I wouldn't remove it. Moco put it there for a reason. Believe me, they won't spend any money they don't have to.

I removed it and replaced it with a new one. I hated having that plastic crap hanging on there. I also took off the plasticlower belt gaurd. I replaced the splashgaurd with one verysimilar to the one shown in the link I'm including. It really cleaned up the rear of the bike. When it is cleaned (rare for me) it looks really cool too. It is important to have a splash gaurd of some kind because otherwise you'll have all kinds of mud and road debris flying up into your engine. More than anything, it would just be a huge mess.
